Erin Burnett on NBC Today Show

Bookmark and Share

The first segment of the Today Show is now back in my routine. This week I have watched CNBC's Erin Burnet co-anchor with Matt Lauer. Here are some quick thoughts (as always these are simply my personal opinions and in no way meant to be taken personally by the reader).
--Burnett is "ok" on this show. She's young. She's growing.. and she's just "OK"
--She's trying too hard at times. Opening the show this AM with a reference to sun needed in NY when the first story was the shooting at the Holocaust Museum was awkward. Lauer knew it. He moved on without a reference. Given more hard news exposure, Lauer is the most under-utilized "hard news" guy at NBC. How long can he keep doing cooking segments.
--When all else fails, reference mom. She's done it this week. Just seems odd.
--I still like Natalie Morales and Ann Curry filling in. Both are strong and enjoyable for different reasons. NOTE: I don't like the silliness that happens on the show sometimes. Curry and Morales, like all the others, get caught up in themselves too often. Still, I watch.

In the end, Burnett is OK. She's easy on the eyes. She is a "TV expert" on the evonomy. She'll grow. SEARCH for more of my posts about Burnett by entering her name in the search box above.

Today's Amy Robach Selected TV's Hottest Anchor

Maxim Magazine has selected NBC Weekend Today anchor Amy Robach as the Hottest TV anchor. Maxim.com has the complete list. Roback is a popular topic on this blog. The blog really started after NBC started splitting weekend anchor duties between Robach and Jenna Wolfe. Both are paired with Lester Holt on alternating days... guy is comfortable one day and on guard another. Here's what Maxim says about Robach, "All the recent wailing about America´s unemployment rate overlooks some of its benefits, namely the additional time it affords you with the hottest host in Today Show history. Her fill-in work at the news desk and on the NBC Nightly News has been par excellence, a term we know only because it´s a synonym for "nifty" on Webster.com." (The image is from her anchoring days at MSNBC.)

Here's the rest of the list:
2. Megan Kelly, FOX News
3. Erin Burnett, CNBC
4. Betty Nguyen, CNN
5. Jenna Lee, Fox Business News
6. Deidre Bolton, Bloomberg
7. Julie Banderas, FOX News
8. Margaret Brennan, CNBC
9. Courtney Friel, FOX News
10. Rebecca Jarvis, CNBC

OK boys and girls... what do we learn from this list? Here are some thoughts:
--If you're not hot, don't hold out much hope of working for FOX News. (3 of 10 are FOX News anchors)
--They have to hire some hotties to anchor business news anywhere... maybe to keep people awake. (5 of 10 are business anchors)
--Sad... Betty Nguyen is the only one holding the CNN flag.
--NBC's only win... the one that counts.. Robach in first place.
--Can you imagine the sad faces at ABC News and CBS News... put of the "No Hotties Work Here" sign
--So just where is Maria Bartiromo, the original 'Money Honey'?

CNBC's Erin Burnett Anchors News on 'Today'

It's a big sign that NBC is investing more and more in CNBC anchor Erin Burnett. Burnett anchored the news segments on Sunday's 'Today' show with Lestor Holt and Jenna Wolfe.. You may have read last week that Burnett just resigned a contract with NBC...six months ahead of her contract's end. The mini news segments on 'Today' are usually a way of grooming future talent for the network's mothership newscasts. While Ann Curry has held the weekday slot for a decade... others have gotten their start at NBC on that desk. Matt Lauer transitioned there just before Bryant Gumbel left. And... you may remember that Deborah Norville also anchored from the news desk before that awkward 3-anchor show with Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley. Eventually Pauley was bumped... Norville took over... left on maternity leave... in walks Katie Couric and the rest as they say is history.
