CNBC's Erin Burnett Anchors News on 'Today'

It's a big sign that NBC is investing more and more in CNBC anchor Erin Burnett. Burnett anchored the news segments on Sunday's 'Today' show with Lestor Holt and Jenna Wolfe.. You may have read last week that Burnett just resigned a contract with NBC...six months ahead of her contract's end. The mini news segments on 'Today' are usually a way of grooming future talent for the network's mothership newscasts. While Ann Curry has held the weekday slot for a decade... others have gotten their start at NBC on that desk. Matt Lauer transitioned there just before Bryant Gumbel left. And... you may remember that Deborah Norville also anchored from the news desk before that awkward 3-anchor show with Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley. Eventually Pauley was bumped... Norville took over... left on maternity leave... in walks Katie Couric and the rest as they say is history.
