New York Giants Win Super Bowl XLII, New England Patriots Lose Historic Game, FOX Highlights

What a game. The underdog Giants won. It seemed like a slow fight for strength through the first three quarters. If you stayed through into the fourth, you saw three lead changes and the Patriots regroup, going on the offensive big time. Then, there was the Eli Manning 32 yard pass that repositioned the Giants with :59 left. . It was the play that changed the game and the Patiots tide. With :29 left, the Patriots tried to fight back. But the Giants held on for a 17-14. Check out highlights here.

Many news stations and some sports nets could learn a lot from FOX Sports broadcast of the Patriots-Giant Super Bowl from Arizona. FOX produced a very tight, simple product that allowed the game to be the star. It’s easy for producers to push graphics, animations and explainers. Many times though they overpower the real focus… the game. FOX broadcast didn’t over do it. It was simple by stylish. The graphics were clear a used at a minimum. I’m sure sports fans appreciated that. I’m sure most news viewers would appreciate such a new product. These days, it seems everyone is looking to add endless animations, music and other jazzy elements to the product. Take some advice from this sport broadcast. FOX let the game be the center of attention. News operation should let the content be the center of attention.

By the way, I wondered in a previous post whether this game would be a ratings dud. We’ll know for sure tomorrow morning. But, I don’t think it will. Even non-sports fans may have been drawn to this ‘the underdog versus the undefeated’.
