Hillary Clinton and John McCain on FOX News Sunday

If you missed 'FOX News Sunday' with Chris Wallace, you saw a bit of drama unfold (planned) and perhaps a preview of what’s to come this year. Wallace was interviewing John McCain as the first guest on the show. Near the end of McCain’s interview, Wallace asked a question that called Hillary Clinton into play. Funny how things happen. Clinton was the next guest on the show and was already prepared with microphone, ear piece and camera shot. Wallace seemed deliberate in his wording about Clinton being next. The control room followed his direction and popped the prepared Hillary Clinton up on a triple box with McCain and Wallace. In no way could this have been spontaneous. Anyone who works in TV news knows that the organization and execution needed to pull together something like that is at least talked about in advance. The team preparing Clinton for her appearance must have known to have her ready early. The McCain interview continued for another two minutes.

As for the pairing itself, both Clinton and McCain seemed more than ready to put the primary season behind them and begin the race for the White House. McCain joked at one point, “Wanna get the debate started right now.” It was cordial and polite. If these two are their party nominees, then I’m sure this was the final time the two will be so cordial with each other.

FOX News is so well choreographed that this moment that put Clinton and McCain together, live on a triple box, will be a moment repeated endlessly in the media. It’s PR for a new operation at its best. It’s another smart plan for FOX News on Super Bowl Sunday.
