‘Weekend Today’ has come a long way! Unfortunately, it’s now nothing more than bouncing babes and beautiful boys… with little substance. OK, that was a little harsh. It was the holiday weekend afterall. After two broadcasts, I’ve decided I won’t be back for a while. Saturday and Sunday left me longing for the quality of content and quality of journalism that Garrick Utley and Mary Alice Williams brought to the table in the early years of the show. I even found myself wondering why NBC would risk a horrible combination for its show.
David Gregory and Janice Huff this morning were the only saving graces
for horrible broadcasts this weekend. First, Jenna Wolfe (who’s name is now tracked on the show open) screams at the camera (and me as a viewer). In an interview this morning, she was more distracted by a beeping clothes dryer than passing along information from a potentially good consumer segment. In segment after segment, her tone attitude and comments are just inappropriate and quite annoying. The newsreader-da-jour was Peter Alexander. I would never point to him as one of NBC’s great storytellers or communicators. His reporting is OK. But he is horribly uncomfortable reading the 3:00 news segments. And then the icing on the holiday ‘Weekend Today’ cake was Jeff Ranieri from WeatherPlus. Never mind that he looks like he is fresh out of college (we all wish we could be so lucky), but this weekend he was screeching and giggling like he was leading a parade through Rockefeller Plaza. Yes, even Jenna Wolfe threw in a few comments about unusual ‘energy’ Saturday morning.
I hope the NBC execs are just throwing everything into the mix to try to find the best people to surround Lester Holt. Jenna, Peter and Jeff are not it.

Please, have you seen Jeff Ranieri in the field? He can be fun on the plaza and very serious news guy when reporting.
He does the weather he can run around the plaza and have fun with the crowd. Get a life.
As I've said about Jenna Wolfe, he too should jump at every chance to expand his career as possible. But that doesn't mean that I want ot wake up to the kind of team filling in a few weekends ago. It was tough TV on a show that's fluff. He's far better on WeatherPlus where he's not trying so hard.
Jenna's segments are all about Jenna. The 'stocking stuffer' segment today (Weekend Today, 12/16/2007)is a prime example. No information was passed along by Jenna. She made the segment all about her. Too bad. I have always enjoyed this program, but it now seems like a waste of my time. I can watch comediennes at night.
all of you are dumb except for the person who posted on december 11. Jeff is an excellent meteorologist. The weekend Today Show is meant to be more lax than the weekday show. That's why it's the weekend. Plus, the weather segments are not meant to be so damn serious. It isn't always on the (weekday) Today Show. Jeff rocks it out when he's in the middle of a hurricane or other severe weather condition. let's see you stand out there all day reporting on it. it's NOT easy by any means.
and Jenna... Amy should be anchoring with Lester all weekend. Jenna is a great feature reporter.
Enough with Jenna. She makes me want to watch CBS on Sunday. To all the moms with avg. looking daughters I am sorry. But its almost like she was to compensate for her looks with a mean sense of humor.
Yes Amy is better looking but that is not why she is better. She is also nicer and cares about what she is reporting.
Get rid of Jenna. please
